OPTAGE Inc.
We are pleased to announce that OPTAGE Inc. (Chuo-ku, Osaka) has opened the “OPTAGE Sonezaki Data Center (OC1)” and commenced operations on Thursday, January 29, 2026. OC1 is an urban connectivity data center located in central Osaka, offering robust external connectivity to Japan’s major Internet exchanges (IXs), telecommunications carriers, and Internet service providers (ISPs).

<Background and Objectives>
The Tokyo metropolitan area and the Kansai region have a high concentration of Internet exchanges (IXs) and mega cloud regions, making them critical hubs in Japan’s domestic network. However, network traffic and data center facilities remain heavily concentrated in the Tokyo metropolitan area. From the perspective of business continuity planning (BCP), including preparedness for natural disasters, the need to diversify deployment beyond the Tokyo metropolitan area, including Kansai, is increasing.
With OC1 as a core connectivity data center, OPTAGE aims to strengthen the information and communications infrastructure of the Kansai region and to aggregate network traffic at a level comparable to that of the Tokyo metropolitan area. Through these efforts, OPTAGE will work to reduce the east–west imbalance in network traffic and contribute to strengthening Japan’s infrastructure resilience.
<Key Features of OC1>
1.Carrier-Neutral Design Enabling Diverse Connectivity
Located in central Osaka, OC1 is an urban connectivity data center designed with a carrier-neutral concept and offering diverse external connectivity options. OC1 hosts multiple connection points for Japan’s major IXs and enables seamless connections to a wide range of telecommunications carriers, ISPs (including OPTAGE), and major cloud service providers. Additionally, OC1 allows in-facility fiber connections between customers’ racks, enabling broad use by customers with interconnection needs—such as content providers and telecommunications carriers—who wish to connect with other operators.
OC1 is located within 3 km of the Dojima and Shinsaibashi areas, which concentrate access points for major cloud providers. Besides bandwidth services, it offers high-quality, stable connectivity through direct optical fiber connections.

2.Support for Installation of AI GPU Servers
Through the adoption of state-of-the-art high-efficiency air conditioning systems and optimized airflow design, OC1 can support high-density and high-load equipment. In addition, its urban location and excellent external connectivity make OC1 suitable for AI-related infrastructure, including GPU servers for AI inference that require low latency.
3. Comprehensive Operational Support from Monitoring to On-Site Operations
OPTAGE offers a wide range of optional services to ensure reliable and secure operations. These include managed services providing 24/7/365 monitoring and operations support; a “Customer Portal” that enables real-time monitoring of access control and power consumption on a per-rack basis; and “Live Operation” services, under which OPTAGE’s infrastructure engineers can perform on-site tasks without the need for predefined procedures in the event of an emergency.
4. Effectively 100% Renewable Energy, Compliant with RE100
By combining a corporate power purchase agreement (PPA) concluded with The Kansai Electric Power Company, Incorporated and KDS Solar Power LLC, with Kansai Electric Power’s renewable energy electricity pricing plan “Renewable Energy ECO Plan,” OC1 operates as an effectively 100% renewable energy, environmentally conscious, carbon-neutral green data center and is compliant with RE100.
5. Secure and Reliable Design Equivalent to Tier IV
OC1 is designed in compliance with Tier IV standards defined by the Japan Data Center Council (JDCC), featuring seismic isolation design, redundant power systems, emergency generators capable of continuous operation for more than 72 hours, and 24/7 on-site management. The seismic isolation design assumes disasters on the scale of a major Nankai Trough earthquake, ensuring stable service provision even in the event of an emergency.
OPTAGE will work to enhance Kansai’s information and communications infrastructure by leveraging OC1—an urban connectivity data center with diverse connectivity—and aims to help realize a prosperous future.
